Steven Greer

Ufologist, founder of the Disclosure Project

CSETIThe Disclosure ProjectCE-5

Steven Greer is an American ufologist and retired emergency-room physician who became one of the most prominent, and most divisive, figures in UFO advocacy. In 1990 he founded the Center for the Study of Extraterrestrial Intelligence (CSETI), and in 2001 he staged the Disclosure Project event at the National Press Club, presenting dozens of former military and government personnel who said they had witnessed UFO-related incidents.

Greer also developed and popularized CE-5, a set of "Close Encounters of the Fifth Kind" protocols: meditation and signaling practices meant to invite contact. He has built expeditions, films, and training around the method, and a sizable following with it.

He is here with the controversy attached, because the controversy is part of the record. Greer is widely criticized, including by others in the UAP field, for presenting unverified claims with certainty and for commercializing contact experiences. The honest way to read him is to keep two things separate. His witness-gathering put real names on the public record. His contact claims rest on testimony and belief, not evidence.
